The Curriculum for Wales
At Ysgol Dôlafon, each child is an individual. We aim to develop the ‘whole child’, embracing everyone’s strengths and individual needs. All learners have access to a broad and balanced curriculum underpinned by our school vision and the four purposes of Curriculum for Wales:

Healthy and Confident Individuals

Ethical Informed Citizens

Ambitious Capable Learners

Enterprising Creative Contributor
We equip our children with the skills, knowledge, and qualities they need to thrive in the 21st century, laying a strong foundation for lifelong learning. Our goal is to ensure that every child succeeds through engaging in an appropriately differentiated, challenging, and engaging curriculum. Our ‘Teulu’ curriculum encourages curiosity and critical thinking through meaningful and relevant concepts. As a school, we prioritise not only what children learn, but also how and why they learn. Pupil voice is central to our approach, empowering learners to play an active role in shaping their Ysgol Dôlafon’s learning journey.
Ysgol Dôlafon is situated in the heart of Wales. Our curriculum reflects this as we foster and develop an awareness of Welsh language, culture and heritage, developing our sense of ‘cynefin’. We celebrate and embrace diversity, developing our knowledge and understanding of the wider cultural inheritance of Wales and the world as identified in our cluster diversity statement.
Our approach to developing our ‘Teulu’ curriculum is underpinned by the development of essential life skills that prepare children for their future. These includes:
•Creativity and innovation skills – where children have opportunities to explore, communicate, create and find solutions.
•Critical thinking and problem-solving skills – where children are encouraged to ask questions, look at evidence, make decisions and solve problems.
•Personal effectiveness – where children learn to make the most of their time and talents, which helps them grow in confidence, become aware of different social, cultural and ethical views and learn from their mistakes.
•Planning and organising skills – where children learn to manage their time, set goals, make decisions and check work.
